When I read this story s synopsis dark, brutally funny story of a British widow living on Naxos who adopts a dog she is ill prepared to care for I was hoping for something along the lines of Gerald Durrell My expectations were quickly deflated replaced by a disappointed puzzlement that only grew as the story progressed This was so uninteresting and unamusing that it actually left me feeling a bit sad for the author, because I just can t imagine this story appealing to anyone.

Disappointing The characters were shallow and not very attractive The book was far too short for any real personality development with a completely inconclusive ending We were never to understand who the narrator was or why any of these people were where they were All told I would not recommend it.
