  1. I agree with readers who think The Bone Tree could have benefited by some editing I am almost halfway through the 800 page book and am weary of the repetition, endless dialogue, and non credible events In the last chapter I read, Caitlin reflected on the events of four days Only four days I thought they d been at it for weeks Too much information, too many characters, and a mind numbing amount of detail We are to believe that Dr Tom Page, always a level headed character in the past, has gone off [...]

  2. I have read many of Greg Iles books, and have always enjoyed not only the fine writing but the tight plotting This book began with the rapid introduction and seemingly endless backstories for so many characters I could not get them all straight As the plot finally began to become evident, even characters and backstories were introduced I felt I needed a flow chart just to keep track of who is who and what they ve done and their various interwoven animosities and manipulations and ambitions I hav [...]

  3. I give this book a 2 because although i hated it, i feel like Greg Iles was just way over his head with this one and it was way too long The main character and other protagonists are irritating and just as unlikable as the bad guys There was no one to root for or care about So who wins Not the reader The entire time I read the book, I kept wondering why he felt compelled to try to juggle 2 separate mysteries with so many characters I found myself dragging through one character s chapter only to [...]

  4. A stellar follow up to Natchez Burning One of the best middle installments of a trilogy I have ever come across The heart of these books is family not just one family several And the deceit and lies they tell and the lengths they will go to love and protect their own The Cage family one that has been prominent in several books written by the masterful Greg Iles , is revered by most in Natchez even when their choices are not understood while the Knox family incites fear in women and men alike Goo [...]

  5. This is a Greg Iles thriller, set in Natchez with his group of characters, Penn Cage lawyer and mayor, Caitlin, love interst but career driven journalist, Annie, and a father who is by all accounts a saint with feet of clay, etc and as with Iles s books, Penn is up against an implacable cabal foe There are parts of the conspiracy he is fighting that seem a bit far fetched, but Iles ratchets up the tension beautifully, his characters are generally well drawn, and the resolution sufficiently chall [...]

  6. We are getting VERY close now to the finale of the Natchez Burning Trilogy actually containing books 4, 5 and 6 of the Penn Cage series I have been devouring these as they come out although I ve only just realised that I never reviewed this anywhere when I read it last year I simply read it Sometimes that has to be what its about Onto The Bone Tree then and I m not going to say much about it because I m sure some people are yet to start this and I don t want to give TOO much away Suffice to say [...]
