  1. Arthur, where have you been all my life Philosophy holds so many answers It s all about WILL and how it is constantly thrown off track by our personality and by our emotions My best philosophy quote so far in my studies , is Will is the natural flow of an unimpeded idea to action Which means, you try not to overeat and you really want to not overeat but you can t do it because your emotions and the urge to be nurtured get in the way Willpower is when you can make it happen. But this is a frustrat [...]

  2. This is a concise and interesting book, in which Schopenhauer reflects about what is important and what is secondary to a well lived existence His starting point is that we may consider three distinct aspects what a man is what a man has how the others see him.Except for a few oddities resulting from having been written in the mid eighteenth century, I found the book very refreshing and full of insightful reflections If I had to single out the most surprising, and perhaps innovative, part, I wou [...]

  3. added Herr Schopenhauer to my bookshelfand got a few by him, and all his works in his native tongue German.which is better and clearer than any translation out there He was relevant in his time and definitely relevant in our f d up timesrspective is what he gives, but it s up to the individual to want to comprehend what he offersowflakes and overall wanna be communist millenials as well as adherents admirers of all ages to the likes of Saul Alinsky type dribble save your mom s money and buy a co [...]

  4. I got quite a bit out of reading this booklet Schopenhauer s philosophical explorations helped clarify and bolster some musings and observations of my own It was nice to sense a kindred spirit across the centurieswell, on some topics, but definitely not others The man had some seriously racist, misogynistic, and nationalistic beliefs Yowza A couple of passages were so bad they made me wonder if I should give the rest of his words any credence at all Granted he lived in different times, but still [...]

  5. I was happy to find these essays by Schopenhauer available for the Kindle I happened to be rereading Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals at the time and it was interesting to compare Schopenhauer s recommendations of the way to the good life with Nietzsche s opinion that an ascetic approach was just Schopenhauer s way to cope. The last essay was amusing as it was a thinly disguised rant someday I will have the fame I deserve while that flash in the pan, Hegel, will be forgotten He was partially right [...]

  6. The first essays are compelling views of the good life and human psychology Happiness is a habit Good health and the internal life of the mind matter far than material or professional or social attainment But Schopenhauer s personality always just below the surface and he struggles to accept his own views This leads him at the end to suggest that ultimate happiness consists of engaging one s faculties fully and producing enduringly great philosophical works.

  7. Seriously why did it take me so long to find this incredible writer If you have the patience to read a little slowly and digest and contemplate the information in this book it WILL change you inside for the better most likely

  8. Schopenhauer was a very wise man He has very sharp insights, into the depths of human nature He attempts to make sense out of world, that often does not make sense He spins out recommendations and judgements, on how to best handle societies predicaments I found Schopenhauer s intelligence and outlooks very refreshing The book was written in the 19th century But Schopenhauer s judgements and observations can be applied to any age.

  9. I bought this book because many one line sayings of Schopenhauer, that I have read on the Internet on quote sites, strike a chord in me The book is an essay, and takes several readings to really appreciate I find that he has a slightly positive outlook on life than I read in Nieztsche There is a lot of wisdom in this Wisdom of Life You will certainly want to apply some its teachings in your life. Some of the things he wrote applied to 19th century European society, and took me a bit longer to tru [...]
