  1. It would be interesting to read as a developed story Artificial intelligence is a future that is upon us, and i would like to see of the ethical arguments brought out I know it is supposed to be a short story but it ended rather abruptly Howey s gift for writing the future always leaves me wanting , and I think a few words at the beginning set up, and at the end, would have left me thinking deeply on this topic.

  2. This short story reminded me why science fiction started as short stories In a matter of a few pages, Howey manages to construct an entire future where AI and robotic development happens in a gladiator like arena Even in its briefness all his characters are all well rendered and their interactions show the signs of years if not decades of history between them, which in itself is quite an amazing thing to portray. What I really liked was how the big surprise of the story was introduced without hyp [...]

  3. Hugh Why do you do this to me You write these wonderful short stories and I want of them I want of Glitch I NEED to know what happens, just as much as I need my next breath This was by far my favorite short story by Hugh Howey.Ok, I m going to make an ugly confession But promise me you won t laugh My love for this story may be biased Because all I kept picturing was Hugh Jackman in Real Steel Hugh Jackman with his shirt off Hugh Jackman covered in sweat in the boxing ringwithhisshirtoffOk My bra [...]

  4. This story is why I read In 5,000 words Howey has opened my curiosity to a field of inquiry I ve never considered inspired me to examine my own behavior both professional and personal introduced a character i would love to meet and left me eager to know what happens next.

  5. I liked few other Howey s short stories, but this one is too short and too first plan You won t miss much if you give this one a miss Read the Beacon 23 instead.

  6. Overall, this was a nice short story, took about ten minutes to read it, but it felt very incomplete of a test case for an actual novel, or maybe he got tired of writing and decided to end it I like Howey s books, but this one seemed rather quick and of a quick hit sales grab For 99 cents, I would give this one a pass.

  7. A fun and fascinating read, the beginnings of a great story that I can only hope follows Max out the door of that trailer.

  8. Can Hugh Howey do no wrong What he has managed to deliver in a mere 5,000 words is brilliant He has turned this book into a Tardis by packing so much content into the pages I was left feeling exhausted ater reading this book, and like any good workout man did it feel good.By being in danger of having a review longer than the book I shall keep this review short If you have a spare 30 minutes invest it in this story and be thorouhgly entertained.

  9. Run of the mill sci if Characters a little flat A less developed I, Robot Nothing special, so not worth the time.
