  1. The 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide came and went in the United States with minimal interest Perhaps there was interest than when it actually happened The ongoing slaughter of millions since in central Africa has merited little media coverage here also Perhaps if the millions losing their lives were in Europe instead we d be glued to the events Is the value for some lives than for others When it was happening I was horrified how little attention here was invested The words Never Again w [...]

  2. As a catholic, it was a wonderful exposition on the dangers of tribalism, and secularization of religion It reminded me that religion is made of people They are not holy and we should be as responsible for their holiness as we are of ours.

  3. Unlike armchair opinionators, Chris McGreal is a true investigative journalist who not only researches the issues but has walked on the ground where events happen McGreal has lived in Africa, travelled extensively and followed the trail of genocide, human injustice and moral fraud In Chaplains of the Militia he uncovers a dismal and disturbing picture of complicity by the institutions of established religion in Rwanda and in many cases, active participation by some of its clergy in indescribable [...]

  4. Excellent book The sheer helplesness one feels when confronted by such a collusion of evil is overwhelming at times One may not be quite as surprised if one reads about where that religion came from and where it is headed, as covered in for example in the book Revelation the Fair God smashwords, a free book.

  5. I visited Rwanda to study the genocide and heard many of the same stories and names, but McGreal brings in data and info that is needed to get a full picture of how some of the murderers got away A great read for anyone interested in the role some Catholic leaders played in the genocide.

  6. I highly recommend this book for both general readers and for college level courses that consider violence genocide war in areas of study from African studies to world literature McGreal shows with stunning clarity that the never again vow, or plea, hasn t worked we keep letting the perpetrators of organized mass violence get away with it This account of genocide in Rwanda leads the reader into a world of Roman Catholic churches turned torture centers I kept reading because in this narrative the [...]

  7. May this book garner the attention it so justly deserves In the best traditions of investigative journalism, McGreal has worked tirelessly to gather the all too disturbing facts about a shameful and damning chapter in the history of the church His story telling is superb His understated tone makes the tale all the shocking This is a book that will both sadden and enrage you, but you will not be able to put it down.
