  1. This is one of the most powerful, multi faceted short stories I have had the pleasure of reading in a very long time On the surface, it is the simple tale of a young girl s meteoric rise to stardom as witnessed by another musician The narrator of the story is a serious folk musician who has sacrificed much in the mastery of his craft He is caught by surprise when a young woman with a ukulele who appears at the open mic night of his favorite folk club quickly becomes an international star Her app [...]

  2. This surprising story is difficult too tell about without ruining it Sali plays the Uke Her simplicity and the words of her music strike a chord, catapulting her to internet fame and into the hearts of people everywhere She becomes a craze Yet Sali is never seen and never does interviews While the story is all about Sally and the performer who tells the story, it is also about how our world responds to something good when tragedy is happening all around It may also have darker observations but t [...]

  3. Here s a short, oddly beautiful and oddly sinister story that occupies a strange territory between fantasy, satire, and fable Who is the girl What gives her song such allure and power Who, finally, is the storyteller This well written story bears close reading and re reading It s about the world we live in now, about popular culture, social media, swift changes, short memory spans, questions, lies and If I were still teaching, I would certainly introduce Young Girl with a Ukulele to my English c [...]

  4. I downloaded it because of the title I m a ukulele fan I didn t know what to expect, novel short story Based on the pace of the narration, I soon learned it was a short story The narration moves along at a nice pace, keeping the story alive, and yet giving you some local flavor too The ending was a little predictable, but none the less satisfying Would love to see stories that give the ukulele a part

  5. Being new to Kindle, I purchased this book by the one preview and the cover Being an author myself, I know how important covers are for sales This cover should draw musically inclined readers, like myself. The storyline held my interest as it opened, but I was disapointed the author hadn t developed it furtherinto a much larger read Perhaps he will as he has the expertise to do so.Dianne J Ferris

  6. Easy read, very thought provoking, excellent written style and linking with current day socio political events Ending was too abrupt It felt too rushed after the well executed plot and story line.

  7. I loved it because it is my kind of story, gentle, love, with a twist, very nice Not just for young people.

  8. I can see that this one has provoked some quite different reactions from reviewers.I found it easy to read, and liked the dry style of the narrator, as he describes the story of the girl with the ukelele, from her first performance to the end game I particularly liked the twist, which I found quite believable.Much of the content seemed so true, sadly, and personally I thought this was satire of the finest order.

  9. It s OK but not a lot of substance and after reading it I am not sure what the author was trying to say
