  1. In the Kindle Single Attempted Hippie, David Noonan tells the entertaining story of his early 1970 s attempt to live the hippie lifestyle Temporarily dropping out of college, he hitchhikes his way across the country and back, with the goal of meeting up with a couple of his brothers along the way and casually hanging out with them Attempted Hippie is well written Noonan is a natural storyteller with a friendly, conversational style, and he paces his tale expertly His skilled use of details gives [...]

  2. Saw this, bought this, read this within an hour Have since forgotten the content, but recall quietly enjoying a little Boomer memoir with a few smiles that I would never have encountered had it not been for Kindle singles I m pleased that I can pay a reasonable fee for a long form essay by a good writer and put a reasonable chunk of that payment directly into the author s pocket I ll read it again some day and smile once Singles are an welcome alternative to consumable magazine or boob tube time [...]

  3. This book really captures the time 70s very well I was sorry when it ended as I felt that I wanted but that can sometimes be the case with a memoir Most of our life stories do not read like a good novel and have a satisfying ending This memoir is a fun and interesting looking at hitchhiking your way on little money back in a time before cell phones and email It is was not an expensive book to purchase and was definitely worth the cost If you ever wished you had hitchhiked your way across country [...]

  4. I liked this story, because I could relate having done something similar myself I saw a lot of myself in him the author as I read along He describes the way it was in the 70 s, and the attitudes that were prevalent of the day A light hearted story of his quest to become a hippie, but deep down knew he was never going to be the true hippie Like the financial guru Dave Ramsey says, you have two types of people The nerd, and the free spirit I guess the author falls into the nerd category, but tells [...]

  5. I m researching for my future novel set in the 1970s and this memoir was a great introduction to the culture inherent in hitchhiking The narrator has a great personality and I enjoyed reading this.

  6. I ordered this thinking it would be a fun story The problem was, the story never developed I read the whole book waiting for something interesting to materialize, but all I got was I slept on the floor of some random place with some hippies that I wish I could be like and we all got high over and over again, in different states I felt like he threw the getting really stoned part in as the entertainment factor Maybe if he didn t smoke so much pot he d remember some interesting facts about his tri [...]

  7. To tell the truth, I enjoyed this book for what it was musings and meanderings that brought back a few memories of my own having a few hippie friends while married, working and going to grad school days A sort of of Kerouac light road odyssey, The fact that it doesn t really go anywhere or evoke any insight or emotion under the simple telling of the facts is disappointing but then, what do you expect from a guy who can t even make it as a hippie

  8. This short read is packed with a hilarity that only a very articulate and literate master writer of humor could achieve in recounting a youthful trip to nowhere rather in the way that Seinfeld achieved hilarity as a TV show about nothing In a sense the book is about an especially profound trip to somewhere a young man s meandering voyage of discovery to find and become himself, and to connect with loved ones The author s sharp skills as cultural observer and wordsmith are evidenced by funny and [...]

  9. It s 1972 and 21 year old David is a college drop out grave digging during the day and working at a gas station at night He is still living in New Jersey with his parents Half stoned, he impulsively decides to hitchhike 3000 miles across America to visit his younger brother John in Tucson, Arizona His trip is full of incident, often amusing Eventually, arriving in Tucson, brother John, has gone to San Francisco On tracking him down, they travel around the Rockies in a clapped out car on a fun an [...]
