  1. Approximatly 50 percent of the way through a online german course and find the stories interesting as the sentence structures are not overly difficult and if you have a good basic vocabulary they can be read withoug having to look up many words Found that it helped seeing a complete story rather than just one sentence lessons Liked it so much that I also bought another book from the series.

  2. I ve been working with duolingo to improve my German and looking for stories and video to pick up conversation and stories that will improve my comprehension and familiarity with the language as actually spoken These stories use simple vocabulary and sentence structure for the beginning reader, but they don t feel like grade school primers Mr Klein tells good stories about real seeming people By the end of the book I cared about Dino and wondered where he was headed next and when he would find h [...]

  3. I ended up getting the whole series of books, and the recordings as well Fun stories, great way to practice your German learning Colloquial and real learners will never understand every word you hear, so learning how to guess which is what you naturally do when reading a fun story is a VERY useful language skill and one that isn t taught so much in the classroom, where your goal IS to understand every word.

  4. Good sentence structure, not oversimplifying the sentences.Short stories, easy to understand and interesting enough for a teenager because they describe everyday situationsThe stories are modern not antiquatedLong enough to get some practice but short enough so they do not overwhelm the studentIf you don t have someone that speaks german you should have at least 1.5 2 years of German in school

  5. I ve downloaded and read this series of small books by Klein and love them all I took 12 hours of college German some 40 years ago and worked on vocabulary off and on over the years So I read like a 4th grader These books are excellent for building vocabulary because there is a list with English equivalents at the end of each short chapter There is a simple set of questions in German about the text to test comprehension In the series we follow a young man from Sicily who has family in Germany an [...]

  6. Great contemporary colloquial stories for beginning to intermediate language learners I m in level 3 of Rosetta Stone for German, and get about 75% of this book without needing the glossary after every story chapter, so it challenges me without being beyond me.Great for bridging the gap between textbooks and books written for native German speakers The text is essentially a continuing story, with each chapter having a glossary after it, to look up words you don t know It explains expressions and [...]

  7. I really enjoyed this series Each of the books is a set of ten fairly short chapters with an interesting bit of the story There is lots of conversation so you get a chance to see how spoken German should work, plus it exposes you to current idioms After doing all nine of these I think a tenth one is in the works I was confident enough to make the jump to Harry Potter I in German.

  8. This is a great series of books The vocabulary is not too difficult for a beginner and the questions at the end of each chapter do a good job of testing your comprehension I highly recommend all of them

  9. The way the book works is that you get short chapters all in German Some of the text is in a bold font and at the end of the chapter you will find translations for all of the bold words great Please note THERE IS NOT A TRANSLATION FOR ALL TEXT ONLY FOR THE BOLD TEXT if you don t understand the text that isn t in bold stuff that is pretty basic German, you will be reaching for a dictionary all the time. For me, 1 years lessons at the Goethe Institute in London, 3 hours per week and lots of Duoling [...]

  10. Frankly, I expected something Stories are clever, yet extremely brief a few pages in German is not enough to make for a book, at least in my opinion Further, the book is poorly reviewed Some words are simply lacking in the small glossary which you find at the end of each story This is something beyond my understanding, also given the fact that a review would take a ridiculous amount of time given the size of the book Also, sometimes the glossary could be precise verschwunden is disappeared, miss [...]
