  1. Do NOT come to this book expecting another great crime story swirling around Cork In fact, if I weren t so OCD about reading an entire series, I would say skip it entirely The plot is merely a bare framework on which to hang a skreed against the trafficking of young girls off Indian reservations, emphasizing the failures of the white man to truly care for the needs of said Indians I have no arguments with the facts presented, but what I came looking for was another great Cork O Connor mystery, n [...]

  2. I have been reading the Cork O Connor series in rapid succession and have been completely hooked This is definitely one of the best books in the series thus far Mr Krueger s impeccable research and compelling prose into the harsh truths of this world while weaving compassion, love, and understanding into his stories is without equal I will not be able to read anything else until I, with tears in my eyes, finish this series.

  3. This story was different from the previous in the series Really got into the struggle of some Native American youth I don t recall ever hearing much about the youth issues in the past, being that different from normal kids growing up Well done and still had the series theme and flavor throughout.I have been working my way though the series, with 3 books remaining, to date I have enjoyed them and believe reading them individually would be as entertaining as reading them as a series Each book can [...]

  4. Amazing tale of lost youth and systemic racism against native American women Stark in social acceptance and eye diverting generation after generation Believable characters you both want to shake sense into and wrap your arms around Brilliant and compelling A real eye opener I could not put down Exceptional work William Kent Krueger.

  5. I ve read this whole series pretty much with my mom And like she said it s kind of just like coming back to some old friends when a new book comes out I loved that shined a great big light on the human trafficking issue with girls from the rez too Coming from the area this book is set it s a topic that a lot of people have their hands in the sand about And like the book points out sometimes willingly because the industries of the area are important that the human lives it looks like So I appreci [...]

  6. I like this series But, the focus on Jenny and her non stop jabbering was annoying It was so forced Cork is the main character When the kids are included peripheral, great But, this just went too far Also, Krueger gets a little preachy sometimes and this book was full of that It reminded me of the weird school shooting a few books back which was a complete non sequitur to the story I m not a gun nut, and I certainly don t approve of traffic in girls obviously But, fiction reading is an escape fr [...]

  7. I just finished reading the whole series of the Cork O Connor novels I read the last few then started from the beginning The series follows the same bunch of characters, but each book is different with its own twists and turns and beautiful descriptions of the North I love the underlying spiritualism the author brings to each novel, Native American and Christian and simple humanity I feel like I learn something with each book.

  8. I loved every word in every book in this captivating series I loved the rugged, pristine Great North Woods setting, the clever plot development, the fully fleshed main characters with their flaws, decency and heart I loved the glimpses of Ojibwe tradition and spirituality that touched my own soul in beautiful and unexpected ways I loved the challenges Cork O Connor faced as ogichidaa the warrior, the one who stands between evil and his people I eagerly await many adventures of the O Connor famil [...]

  9. Having only recently discovered this author, I have read all the previous books in this series over the past few months I had read a 1star review of this book, so I knew not to expect the suspense element of the earlier books I agree that if you want a suspenseful thriller, this is not the book for you However, there are several other elements that also strongly appeal to me in these stories The development of the main characters has been a strong theme for me throughout and Jenny has a main rol [...]
