  1. It s rather hard to get the rest of the family to read books like this, although since I had it on kindle my wife did read it during what turned out to be the last week There is a difference between the last weeks, the last days, and the last hours, but guess what If you or someone you love is approaching end of life, odds are quite high you they will go through these stages, which you ll be able to see clearly afterward.Hospice nurses don t know everything, they are just good guides, and good p [...]

  2. I already had the Gone From My Sight booklet that Hospice gave me when we brought them in for my wife But I found the last 2, The Eleventh Hour and My Friend, I Care, to be very helpful and informative My wife has taken a bad downturn in the last week and I just wanted info on what to look for and how to handle what was inevitably coming in the near future It will certainly help me to be able to deal with it better and also express to her that I know she must leave and that we will be okay.

  3. I loooooove these books I am an oncology nurse practitioner and these are hands down the best patient information on this difficult topic I have found anywhere They are simply worded for many educational levels to understand and very short and consice without being threatening or excessively blunt Barbara Karnes does a beautiful job taking a topic that most patients and families avoid like the plague and making it not just approachable and tolerable but reframing it for what it is in a bigger se [...]

  4. We all will die We all will experience loss We will carry our own scar s as life progresses Yet a scar is a reminder of a past hurt, yet it is also a reminder of a past life that can be relived, relived, respected And missed. My wife and I are in the Autumn of our lives Each day brings on a new ache, pain and in each of our own lives, a diagnoses of the closeness of our own deaths.Respect, love, sharing and many other Pillers have held our marriage high So has being able to talk and understand ea [...]

  5. These were the most helpful books for me when I was caring for a parent with cancer and end of life. They are easy, short reads that helped prepare me for each stage that takes place at end of life.I ve loaned them to several friends who ve appreciated the knowledge as well Each book is like a 15 20 minute read but packed with so much information.

  6. I purchased these when the blue one was recommended by my mother s hospice nurse It was invaluable in explaining what to expect and when There were things that happened to my mother that, had it not been for the blue book, I would have not know what was happening All four are very useful and worth reading several times each They are easy to read, easy to understand and a comfort Every patient s experience will differ, but these books are valuable tools and guides for what will be the most diffic [...]

  7. I am an HCA and recently had a client who was on hospice care My first client who was legitimately close to death Their daughter had one of these books and allowed me to read it while I sat at their side It helped me to understand what was happening and why It also helped me to stay strong when they did pass I decided to buy them for myself so I can continue to learn to help any future client or family members that have questions about what s happening to them.

  8. I ve never had anyone close to me pass before but my father has end stage COPD and it s so helpful to read signs and symptoms that he has or could have It s also very helpful to read what he could be going thru in his mind things he can t put into words himself but may be feeling all or most of the time This is all so comforting to have some clue to what may happen and the stages of how it could happen just very helpful, educationalnot enough words to describe really, how much peace reading thes [...]

  9. I watched the YouTube presentation by the author before reading these booklets The booklets are a handy reminder of most what she said, but to gain the full value of what she says and how she says it, I strongly recommend you watch it on YouTube She is a natural, very likeable and very informative presenter everything is based on her own experience of being a hospice nurse for many years These booklets are ok, but do not do justice to her or the advice she so eloquently offers.
