  1. As usual, I love the approach taken in these books I ve been reading these X Year Old books since my son was three and I found him to be in a particularly difficult phase of development Now that he s five and definitely sunny I simply enjoy the insight into the developmental milestones.Dr Ames does a fantastic job of making parents feel comfortable and aware of the stage that their child is in.My only dislike of the book is the approach that children who are introverted need to be accepted, but [...]

  2. I began reading these books when my kids turned 3 I saw a copy in my children s pediatrician s personal office titled Three Year Old Friend or Foe The title was very much on point with the current situation in our household The books are a super quick read I finished this one in one morning while the 5 year olds where in school Which mom s can truly appreciate because time is golden It gives developmental information and tips on how to handle situations that come up with the age I already have Y [...]

  3. This is our 5th book and I will continue to buy the next as our daughter continues to grow we have read all the others Your Baby Your 5 year old They are a wonderful book filled with ways to help understand what is going on with your child at a given age I find I parent better when I have a better understand as to why my child is behaving in a certain way Knowledge is power And these books give that to you and then some.

  4. As a former kindergarten teacher over 30 years , ii can highly recommend these books to both parents and teachers I taught in a Geselle Developmental kindergarten, and found the books too be right on They were written quite a few years ago, but developmentally are right on They were written before computers were in classrooms, so don t speak to that issue.

  5. I used these books when my own kids were growing up years ago and they are spot on Very good explanations of what is normal behavior at each age, what to expect I started with the 2s book for my daughter to read for my grandchildren they still stand up today.

  6. A child is ready for kindergarten when they can identify three out of four colors and count to four The child would be eaten alive in today s kindergarten. There were a few good points but not enough to make it worth reading.

  7. Child development is predictable to a large extent The authors do an excellent job of providing a developmental framework for parents of five year olds The book sadly is very outdated in the societal issues surrounding male and female roles Parents and children no longer fit the stereotypes depicted in the book Discipline practices, school experience, even basic safety concerns are an issue in this book.

  8. I love reading about the disequilibrium phases on the internet, and it has really helped me with parenting Decided to try a book It is written a long time ago, and has a bit of an old feel to it However, I have still taken on a few great points which have helped me form a steely resolve with some issues I have had recently I m neither positive, nor negative about this book Worth a try for people who like to read, have an open mind to older ideas, and can pick the bits of advice that suit them Th [...]

  9. I enjoyed reading this book, and it is like the other ones in the series a systematic account of a child s development and behaviour over the year The accounts are well written, and allow for variation Indeed one of their strong points is in helping parents understand the wide range of normality The books in this series for 3 and 4 year olds were spot on for my daughter, and helped me handle her well This one doesn t seem quite as accurate as the books in the last two years Obviously I am commen [...]
