  1. I have read several of Lisa Jewell s books in the past few months and enjoyed them, but i was shocked and dismayed to come across blatant antisemitic comments in The Making of Us The comments were gratuitous and almost bizarre.Early in the book, Lydia makes nasty comments about another client of her trainer, Bendiks, and goes out of her way to point out that the women is Jewish as she makes very derogatory comments about her There is a further, less overtly antisemitic but still bizarre descript [...]

  2. Lisa Jewell is an author that started reading a couple of years ago I enjoyed her latest 2 books and felt it was time to dive into her back list I m not exactly sure where this falls in the order of her books, but I do think that Jewell is an author who improves with each books.Which, I guess is a nice way of saying that this isn t her best work There is much I like about it, but I can t say it was a wholly successful book. There was much I liked about it It was the premise that drew me into this [...]

  3. I thought this was a really good book Initially, I wasn t sure about the plot, but I was pleasantly surprised because this story was fascinating and incredibly heartfelt The three main characters Lydia, Dean and Robyn are so wonderfully different and written so well you immediately care about them and understand their motivation for wanting to find their biological dad The ending made me cry and smile at the same time I highly recommend this book

  4. There are too many books I want to read to bother with this book I got over 10% through this and disliked the main characters, and found the tone of the book to be negative and dull I moved on to another book.

  5. The story kept me reading The characters were interesting and their stories while not in depth were unique Their immediate connection made me want to read stories of actual people in the same situations and see if they did have a connection I now have a friend meeting her brother located via DNA They did have that connection.

  6. A hard look at what makes a parent and what is a sibling Occasionally a bit predictable and over simplified, Jewel does examine the new family relationships of sperm donors and the possible situations that could arise She has a good way of raising the same questions the reader wants to have the answers to and does it as straightforwardly as possible through her characters The novel flows and never seems scientific but rather from the heart.

  7. I am a fan of Lisa Jewell and have enjoyed many of her books recently The Girls which I gave 5 stars However, I was bored with this book I found it very predictable and the story weak I am also very surprised that so many people have rated it so highly Strange really Obviously, a judgment is always subjective but I thought I would offer this opinion.

  8. I ve read several books by this author and enjoyed them all This one is very different to the others but every bit as good I loved the characters and wanted to follow their lives after the story had ended Helped me through another few days of lockdown and I ll be moving on to another Lisa Jewell novel immediately
