  1. I find great value in learning things that broaden my insight, things that touch me inside where I ve not been touched before in this exact way This book did those things for me and I value it.Definitely not an easy book because of the subject matter, but an important book in my opinion Many people have personal demons and any light of understanding into those demons is important Thank You Chris Roberts for sharing this story.

  2. As soon as I started this story I knew it was a mistake I would recommend this book to No one It s a complete downer.

  3. While some of the language of this short story is quite beautiful and affecting, taken as a whole, this story is just not very good The author seems to need a stern editor, as the prose gets quite florid and senseless Some words are used in extremely unconventional ways as another reviewer pointed out exhale as a noun , which would sound fine if read aloud, but while reading they are very jarring. My last criticism is that this story tells you everything, and shows you nothing An omniscient narra [...]

  4. I decided to read this story because first the author engenders such strong emotions, secondly because I enjoy experimental and new fiction, and finally his reviews of others are creative if not well written or germane to the books I started and was immediately struck by how much the voice was a weak, untalented and frankly cheap imitation of Plath s The Bell Jar And that is the best I can say of this writing It is predictable, arrogant, immature and prose so old fashioned and boring that I was [...]

  5. I love Kindle shorts so I decided to give this one a try only read about 10 % of it then deleted it At least it was free 0

  6. Roberts world in a Hazy Shade of Winter is a place where instead of writing a letter, people pen a note The wind instead of being from the west is errant Fields don t get watered they get hydrated People don t wear a false face but instead present a mannequin fa ade Roberts has created a time and place overwrought with emotion and stuffed with all things lyrical For sure it isn t Hemingway s world. Here, stripped of the lyricism, are some of the story details It s 1965 Blaine isn t doing too well [...]

  7. I like owning a Kindle if only to read the new authors, or those trying to be writers I picked this book because the young man s name popped up somewhere else I actually liked the book and thought there was a lot of potential in the story, but somehow it was missed It read like an extensive outline of what could have been a really great first novel Yes the ending was predictable from the beginning, but still in between could have been a great story if there was meat on the bone The book felt lik [...]
