  1. I have read all of the Barry Eisler books in the order suggested on his website so that I had enough of a background of the characters to appreciate each book So, of course I read The Lost Coast before going on to The Detachment and The Khmer Kill before reading The Night Trade The Khmer Kill was actually essential for understanding the background for Dox s involvement in The Night Trade However, The Detachment was not essential for anything. The story is full of contradiction which is annoying L [...]

  2. People are complaining the book is short. It s.99 Yes it s short.People are complaining about the gay aspect Get a life.People are complaining about violence What part of the description would lead anyone to think otherwise Why would any Eisler reader not expect this Fun, short, suspenseful and vengeful read about one of Eisler s lesser known, but dark and interesting, characters.

  3. The Lost Coast by Barry Eisler is a Kindle Short story I downloaded using Kindle Unlimited KU The story is preceded by a warning that it is for mature audiences and contains scenes of sexual violence that might be different than what I am accustomed to I immediately began to search my home for a tracking device How does he know what I am accustomed to This short story starts out with descriptions of tradecraft Everyone has picked up from TV that when you are on the run it is not cool to use cred [...]

  4. While I m conflicted about the ending of this short story, it was a great story It was sexy, terrifying, and unexpected Barry Eisler is not afraid to blow past expectations and boundaries, and that s what I love about his writing My interpretation is that it s designed to make the reader think a little and accept a little less about what s normal by giving direct examples of the irony of the world, showing the discrepancy between the bubble wrapped world we d all prefer to see and the actual wor [...]

  5. Since I have read all of Eisler s books pertaining to Rain, Lone, Treven, Delilah, Dox and Larison, I felt that I should read this one about Larison It was okay and just verified that he is gay It was an incident that happened to him He was ganged up on by 3 men with pipes and he fought back Larison also took out his revenge on the guy that baited him into the set up He taught him a good lesson Short story All warnings were published by Eisler to the readers You were not forced to buy this novel [...]

  6. Like other reviewers, I wish I could give this zero or negative stars Warning should have read Homosexual Rape And then I would have left this on the shelf What a pile of garbage What a waste of time and money So disappointed in an author I ve read for many years.

  7. A tough hard boiled short story featuring Larison, the scariest guy these scum could have been unfortunate to meet Another short that fills in a blank between novels.

  8. This was the first novel of this author that I d read at the time It took me a while to adapt to the style it is written in short sentences blunt statements hardly any supplementary prose to fill out the story It was quite shocking and brutal but I was left wondering so what what now Perhaps it should have been built into a longer story, or maybe I just don t appreciate such brief novels.
