  1. Longmire decides to single handedly track down a gang of cold blooded psychopaths in the middle of a blinding blizzard They had tricked and murdered an entire team of FBI agents Backup can t arrive because the roads are snowbound Cell service is spotty to nonexistent, so he can t tell anyone exactly where is As expected, there are Indian spirit guides and Walt talks to dead people Although his deputies know vaguely where in the Big Horn Mountain area he is going, without cell service his exact d [...]

  2. Wow Hell is Empty turned into one of the most memorable books I ve read I found Johnson s series on Walt Longmire long after I discovered the TV series Every volume has been a joy terrific writing a van load of prisoners have escaped during the literal dead of winter A blizzard halts traffic throughout the county, but Walt sets out on foot to recapture these men led by a smart psychotic killer with a mission You won t discover the mission until near the end Johnson s description of trudging thro [...]

  3. If you wish, you can read this as a horror story A ghost story. It is, in fact, a very insightful description of insanity Real insanity, of the criminal, dangerous kind With real psychiatric diagnoses Many people don t really believe in insanity, because they have never met anyone insane They think the insane are just crazy Like a lot of people they know, only so.That is not so.It is also a very insightful description of the kind of hallucinations anyone, completely sane and normal, can suffer fr [...]

  4. Craig Johnson s Longmire series is comfortable to read He re uses the same basic characters in a manner that is not repetitive or boring His plots are never repetitive and have you rooting for the good guys and shivering when the bad guys get the upper hand The lay of the land should be familiar to those who have spent time in the Northwest High plains and mountains The mixtures of the Indian and White cultures should be well taken by those who live there If one is in a down mood and needs liter [...]

  5. This book turned into one of my favorite of the series so farand that s saying something The writing, the characters all done to perfection But this allows us to delve into Walt s mind even as he battles the elements and receives help from the spirits or does he Walt s ongoing surprise at the appearance of the old ones is always intriguing Johnson leaves it up to us as to what we believe Instead of setting the stage and slowly ramping up the action, this takes off at the starting gate and never [...]

  6. I have a hard time getting through the Longmire books I fight my way through and actually enjoy the story Other people I know like the books that I struggle getting through At this point it must be me I can read CJ Box and Michael Connelly with no problems The same with JA Jance But it takes me weeks to get through a Longmire book which include multiple times of giving up reading them and then continuing after a break Based on the popularity of Craig Johnson books I guess it must be me Please gi [...]

  7. The hallmark of a good storyteller is economy of prose Paint a vivid picture of all the characters and drop a mention of their idiosyncrasies Walt always thumbing off the label of his Rainier beer Craig Johnson s stories are always the right length, and he uses English with skill and dexterity I love the way he incorporates the spiritual into the story line, and Longmire s constant surprise at encountering the Old Ones Walt is complex, yes, but so are all the other characters They become living [...]

  8. just finished this one and i have to say i cant believe i have never read it before i dont have netflix and caught the longmire tv show on outdoor life channel so i decided to read the books and i love them the author is incredibly well read i thought i was the books are gripping, cant put down books super characters and amazing quotes from many different characters although im somewhat of a skeptic i still buy into the spirit world there is something there and some people feel it than others yo [...]

  9. I stopped reading Lee Child s Jack Reacher when he became seemingly indestructible am hoping Walt Longmire doesn t go the same way Characters are as great as always, locations, descriptions all brilliant, but this one just seems a bit too far fetched in how far one man pushes despite being repeatedly told to wait for backup Enjoyed it, as with all Longmire ones, but felt it became a bit too one man versus the world

  10. An excellent story I would highly recommend to anyone who is either a fan of Longmire stories or of Native American stories The story raises the tension slowly then holds and maintains it consistently until the end.Why did I dock a star Two reasons 1 the first half of the story is almost identical to an episode of the TV show called The Unquiet Mind If you have already seen this episode you will possibly be left wondering if it s worth reading the book well for me I really enjoyed the extra deta [...]
