  1. I am 42% through this book And I m giving up This is BAD writing Boring Almost nothing has happened I appreciate Brandon Sanderson dearly for his other novels But I cannot stand reading this book It is almost entirely pure extrapolation is every scene with very VERY little substance that is relevant to the story Imagine game of thrones without ANY of the action Political nonsense and characters you don t give a crap about. If you want a GOOD READ Please, go read Patrick Rothfuss, Kingkiller Chron [...]

  2. I really had a hard time getting into this book It was very slow and the main character was of a politician In fact the book was political than magical Of course at the end the last 1 4 of the book was good but it was a bit of a yawn getting there I feel like there was a lot left unresolved as well but perhaps the Emperor Soul will address them I did read the Mistborn trilogy and have to say that the first book was excellent I loved Kelsier and everything about the first book The second book was [...]

  3. This is a great start to a new series I found myself mostly captivated by every character I am often not a huge fan of novels that switch perspective a lot For one, it takes a lot longer for me to get invested in an individuals story when it s interspersed with 3 other individual stories I understand why an author would choose to do this, and I must say Sanderson does it masterfully I njoyed each story individually Great job Another reason I tend to hate this style is I usually end up favoring o [...]

  4. spoiler alert This was my first Sanderson book, picked for my book club by another member who is a HUGE Sanderson fan but never read this This is his debut novel and let me just tell you, the depth he gets into, I can understand why his following is so large He gives you so much information about his characters, plot, and setting that it s amazing the book is only at the length it is Spoiler It was left open ended for a sequel which I would love to read The character developments were astounding [...]

  5. This was my second reading of Elantris, about ten years apart from the first time While I still enjoyed the story, this time around I did find it a little harder to get through Part of it was the abundance of side plots, some of which didn t really feel necessary to the main story beyond providing convenient help to a main character at a particular moment in time The other part this time around was the characters I think it s partially because, after having read his later books, I missed the dep [...]

  6. I read this book with a mixture of audio and Kindle If it hadn t been for the audible narration I would never have known how to pronounce all those names Classic beginner mistake to create names that are unpronouncable or at least don t follow the accepted rules of pronunciation The plot had plenty of twists and turns, some predictable, others feeling a little unnecessary, as though trying to follow the pattern of a television series I liked the characters on the whole Galloden was a delight and [...]

  7. I ve read Brendon Sanderson s Mistborn series previously and really enjoyed them despite some weaker moments so decided to try some of his other works and Elantris is, as far as I can tell, his first novel A stand alone fantasy book there are a couple of short stories set in the world I haven t read yet and it s excellent A really interesting world, great characters and a story that eventually comes together perfectly Definitely worth a read if you like his other work or fantasy novels in genera [...]
