  1. The book was fascinating right up until I got to page 306, and then instead of pages 307 338, pages 275 306 were repeated. As much as I want to see what happens next, WON T LET ME RETURN IT FOR A REPLACEMENT Apparently, some bean counting mental midget has rigged the ordering system so returns aren t possible if the order is than a couple of weeks old Way to go You now have joined the ranks of those companies that are so big and successful that you can now blithely go out of your way to screw the [...]

  2. So far I ve read 4 titles in order in the Pendergast series, and besides Relic, this is my favorite The murders are the most gory to be found in the series so far and the story is the funniest Yes, these two apparently can co exist in the very capable hands of Preston and Child In the midst of all the horror, they milk Pendergast s fish out of water situation for all its worth, with brilliant results His exploration of the menu at Maisie s diner is laugh out loud funny He is surrounded by quirky [...]

  3. The fourth entry in this series finally takes Special Agent Pendergast out of New York and brings him to the small town of Medicine Creek, Kansas to investigate a series of grisly and bizarre murders It s a welcome change of scenery going from the big city to a town where everyone knows each other and one of their number is a killer.Pendergast is, as usual, brilliant His does things his own way, but never comes across as arrogant or entitled, like so many law enforcement protagonists tend to Thi [...]

  4. It started off a little slowly, but then it gathered speed and I couldn t put it down Amazing ending I stumbled on these authors just recently and I am super hooked I had picked up Cabinet of Curiosities at the library s book sale and was totally mesmerized, so I decided to read the whole Pendergast series in order These are some of the exciting books I have ever read and I have read many thousands I also have a great interest in anthropology, so that kind of flavor appeals to me Yes, I did read [...]

  5. I liked this book overall It is a fun addition to the Pendergast saga It has everything I have come to expect from Preston and Child well written, fun factoids, developed scene and setting , but I have a few minor issues with this bookFor one thing, this book does very little as far as getting to know Pendergast goes Though he is the only consistent character so far in the series, he never quite takes center stage To this point, we the readers know very little about him only that he is moneyed, [...]

  6. If you ve gone through the first 3 books of the series and are wondering if you should continue, you should I ve been devouring this series faster than anything I ve ever read before This novel in particular is one I very much enjoyed, for once the mysterious agent Pendergast is the primary focus In the previous books there were others who took up most of the page but this one is just the enigmatic FBI agent out in the middle of nowhere doing his thing As much as I love smithback, it s nice to n [...]

  7. In a small, sleepy town in Kansas very strange and horrifying things are happening, strange events and grisly murders occur.Soon Special agent Pendergast of the F.B.I arrives in town and along with the town misfit, Corrie Swanson, sets about investigating not just the murders and strange events, but also a mass murder that occurred in the town over a hundred years previously. It took me a while to get through this one as it can be slow going at times but, the pace picked up There are quite a few [...]

  8. I wasn t sure about this at first The small town setting wasn t something I was really into, and there were some sections that just seemed to go on forever with little forward movement That said, it was generally a good read as I come to expect from Preston Child They do this genre better than almost anyone I d give it 3.5 if that were an option.
