  1. Don t buy the Gollancz edition, see attached images I stuck it out for about 100 pages but now I m seeking a refund or exchange for a different edition There are many problems with the version from Gollancz, namely The text is blurry and blotchy, very difficult to read without very bright light Normal text sometimes looks italicized, and it s hard to tell when certain passages were meant to be italicized or not The margins are terrible The text goes almost all the way into the binding, so you ha [...]

  2. Things get weird in Children of Dune This book is definitely a turning point for the series, and is thus often a point of debate among fans. What s the setup Minimal spoilers After the events of Dune Messiah, Paul Muad dib is missing and presumed dead His sister Alia is effectively a religious emperor commanding the universe from Arrakis via Paul s church Paul s Children Leto and Ghanima become the titular focus of the series Their prophetic rise to power will define the shape of the universe to [...]

  3. I ve never felt compelled to review an actual book printing but this one is so bad I wanted to warn everyone away I didn t realize when I placed the order that this wasn t from the same publisher as the other books in the series the others were Penguin s ACE, this one is Orion s Gollancz imprint. The ACE editions are incredible perfectly kerned text, nice light font, good amount of whitespace on the page This Gollancz printing is heavy, but not uniformly so, every other page is practically in bol [...]

  4. The first Dune book was outstanding Just a masterpiece Thoroughly enjoyable If all you know of Dune was that hatchet job of a movie from the 80s you owe it to yourself to read this book. The second Dune book was also very good Many negative reviews for it but I enjoyed.Children of Dune is where the series took a turn for me and I was no longer interested in reading about this world I pushed through the last quarter of the book just to finish it.

  5. Children of Dune rounds off a trilogy of what is still the best science fiction I have ever read I re read it every few years, always finding something new in this complex and cosmic narrative However, this series of Kindle editions is just awful There are terrible word substitutions on every page Leto frequently becomes Leo , morning light becomes moaning light , Golden Path became Golden Paw Dune Messiah from the same series had the same problem These are not simple books, dealing as they do w [...]

  6. It s taken me the better part of a week and a half to get through this book and I can t even blame the length of the title for my slowness That said, this is a far better book than its predecessor, Dune Messiah, which lacked in plot and character development However, it still doesn t stand up against the original Marvel that was Dune It s a far slower, introspective book than Dune was and perhaps relies a little too much on plots within plots that take forever to get moving But despite the slow [...]
